Healthy Lunch Policy

LUNCHBOXES

A balanced lunch box should provide about one-third of your child’s daily nutrition requirements and

should contain foods from each of the four main food groups.  The ideas below are not exhaustive but only include food items that are both nutritionally sound and encouraged by the school.

 

CARBOHYDRATES/ENERGY FOODS

  • Breads etc. (wholemeal preferably) – sliced bread, rolls, baps, bagels, baguette, ciabatta, mini pitta pockets, cream crackers, water biscuits, Ryvita, tortillas, wraps, mini pancakes.
  • Other – plain rice cakes, oatcakes, plain or fruit muffins, scones, cereal and dried fruit bars.
  • Potatoes, rice, couscous and pasta.

FRUIT and VEGETABLES

  • Apple, orange, mandarin, banana, , pear, grapes, plums, strawberries, melon, peach, mango, pineapple.
  • Fruit smoothies.
  • Dried raisins and apricots.
  • Tomatoes, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, corn, broccoli, peppers, celery, olives.
  • Vegetable soup in flask.

PROTEIN FOODS

  • Meats – chicken (plain, tikka, tandoori etc.), turkey, ham, bacon, roast beef, pork or lamb.
  • Fish – tinned salmon/tuna, smoked salmon.
  • Other – hummus, baked beans.

DAIRY/CALCIUM FOODS

  • Mild, hard or cream cheese.

ADDITIONAL DRINKS

  • Water.
  • Squash drinks i.e. miwadi/Robinsons in a reusable screw top container.

 

The following foods are not permitted in schools:

  • Chocolate – all forms.  Cake, bars, biscuits, choc-chip cookies, nutella etc.
  • Crisps, hoola-hoops.
  • Sweets of any kind, lollipops.
  • Frubes, winders.
  • Fizzy drinks.
  • Yogurt, yogurt drinks etc.

 

These items will be left in the lunchbox if they are brought to school.

 

 

We have a few children in the school with severe NUT, EGG and KIWI ALLERGIES   For safety reasons we ask you not to put any nut products or food containing nuts in your child’s lunch box PLEASE.
