We have had a busy time since the last newsletter in September. At our AGM Michelle Mooney stepped down as chairperson, but remains on the committee and Caragh Ferguson was elected new chairperson. Many thanks to Michelle for her hard work. Other committee members are Clare Neurohr, Rachel Moran, Fergal Collins, Valerie Donovan, Michelle Tanner and Noelle Boylan. We welcome new members at any time, please just speak to any of us.
Clare Moore and Fergal Collins are continuing in their roles as parent nominees on the school Board of Management. A new Board will be in place by 1 December, for a 4 yer term. We wish Clare and Fergal the best of luck and thank them for volunteering for the positions.
We would also like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Maria Antoniewicz. A memorial service will be held in the school at 11.15 on 20th November. All welcome. The parents association is planting a tree and plaque on the school grounds in her memory. May she rest in peace.
Halloween Disco
The children had a fantastic time at the disco. Many thanks to all who volunteered, without whom events like this couldn’t go ahead. Also thanks to Fit Kids for entertaining us with their talented dancers. We raised €782. Proceeds from the disco will contribute towards the refurbishment of the school library.
Garden
The garden is looking wonderful, thanks to our volunteer dads John and Alan. We spent alot of time and money on the garden last year. This year we are asking you to help. Have you anything, including ideas for our garden and polytunnel? We hope to use recycled resources for the garden this year. The garden is a great learning resource for the school. Art Exhibition
The school is holding an art exhibition of pupil’s work on Wed 25th Nov at 1.30-3 pm & 6.30 – 7.30 pm and on Thurs 26th November at 8.30 -9.30 am & 2-4 pm. For only €10 you will be able to purchase a framed work of art created by your child, a true snapshot in time.
Cake Sale
To coincide with the art exhibition, the parents association is holding a cake sale. The cake sale will take place from 1.30-3pm on Wednesday 25 November. Please drop your homemade/shop bought cakes or buns for the sale into us on the morning of the sale. All donations much appreciated. Money raised on the day will be used to complete the refurbishment of the library .
Christmas Fundraiser
This year our Christmas fundraiser is a raffle. Further details to follow. In the meantime we are appealing to any parents/guardians who can donate a prize. Please contact any member of the committee or text/phone 0879172649 before 27th November. All donations will be acknowledged and appreciated. We plan on using the raffle money to help the school procure much needed diagnostic assessements and other learning support tools.
Parents/guardians of children preparing for First Holy Communion don’t forget the next Do This in Memory Mass takes place on Sunday 22nd November 10am. Further details found at www.sacredheartlaytown.com
